Swimming in 32F Water for a Great Cause

I recently did the Polar Plunge to raise money for the Special Olympics. I had 2 goals and I met one of them. My first goal was to raise $1,000 for the Special Olympics and I raised 83% of that.

My second goal was to stay in the water for 5 minutes and I exceeded it by about 30 seconds. The water temp was 32F and outside it was 35F and raining the entire time.

One of the keys was my mental preparation. On my first attempt a month earlier I only lasted 2.5 minutes. The problem? I didn’t get in the right mindset. I had also been shocked by the sheer coldness of the water and how deeply into my body it penetrated.
